LEILA GARETTO – Argentinian Long Jump and Triple Jump Specialist

Leila Garetto is a rising star in Argentinian athletics, representing Unión de Santa Fe and competing in both the long jump and triple jump. As a versatile jumper from Santa Fe province, she has established herself as one of Argentina’s premier horizontal jumpers, consistently performing at the highest national level and representing her country in international competitions.

    Athletic Accomplishments:

Garetto’s career highlights showcase her excellence in both jumping disciplines. Her personal best in the long jump stands at an impressive 5.98 meters, achieved in April 2024, with another strong mark of 5.85 meters recorded in June 2024. In the triple jump, she has reached 11.97 meters as of March 2025, demonstrating her technical prowess in this demanding event.

At the 2025 Argentine National Championships (105th edition) held in Concepción del Uruguay, Entre Ríos, Garetto delivered outstanding performances across both events. She claimed the silver medal in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters, finishing just behind local favorite Victoria Zanolli’s winning 6.21 meters. In the triple jump, she secured the bronze medal with 11.97 meters (+1.5 wind), showcasing her versatility and competitive consistency at Argentina’s most prestigious athletics event.

Her success extends to international competition. At the 2024 Gran Prix Paraguay held in Asunción, Garetto won the bronze medal in the long jump with a mark of 5.52 meters (+0.2), competing against top South American athletes. This performance came after she successfully recovered from a hamstring injury earlier in the season, demonstrating her resilience and determination. Following the competition, she expressed her satisfaction with the year’s achievements and her excitement for future opportunities in 2025.

Garetto has also excelled in relay events, earning recognition as the Argentine national runner-up in the 4×100 meters relay. She has consistently medaled at the National Club Championships, securing second place in 2019 and third place in 2018, contributing to her club’s success in team competitions.

At the provincial level, Garetto has been a dominant force. At the 2025 Santa Fe Provincial Championships held in Rosario, she won the gold medal in the long jump with a leap of 5.36 meters. She has also claimed victories at the Copa Santa Fe de Atletismo, where in July 2024 she won the long jump with a mark of 5.46 meters (+0.15). At the 2022 Santa Fe Provincial Championships held at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo Pedro A. Candioti (CARD) in Santa Fe city, she once again topped the long jump podium with 5.16 meters.

    Family and Training:

Athletics runs in the Garetto family. Leila’s sister, Denise Garetto, is also a competitive triple jumper who represents Unión de Santa Fe. At the 2025 National Championships, Denise finished sixth in the triple jump with 11.73 meters (+2.3), and the sisters regularly compete together in provincial and national competitions. Their shared passion for athletics has made them prominent figures in Santa Fe’s track and field community.

Garetto trains at the world-class facilities of the Centro de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo Pedro A. Candioti (CARD) in Santa Fe, where many of Argentina’s top athletes prepare. As a member of Unión de Santa Fe, one of Argentina’s historic sports clubs, she benefits from strong institutional support and a competitive training environment.

    Career Journey and Resilience:

Garetto’s athletic career has been marked by perseverance through challenges. In 2024, she successfully returned to competition after overcoming a hamstring tear, demonstrating the mental toughness required to compete at the elite level. Her ability to bounce back from injury and immediately achieve podium finishes at major competitions speaks to her dedication and professional approach to the sport.

Her competitive spirit and consistent improvement year after year have made her a fixture on Argentine national team rosters. She regularly represents Argentina at South American competitions and has competed against athletes from across the continent, gaining valuable international experience that continues to shape her development.

    Looking Ahead:

As she continues to compete at the highest levels of South American athletics, Leila Garetto represents the bright future of Argentine track and field. With personal bests approaching six meters in the long jump and twelve meters in the triple jump, she remains focused on continued improvement and pursuing excellence in both events. Her performances have positioned her among Argentina’s elite jumpers, and she continues to train with ambitions of representing her country at continental and potentially global championships.

Garetto’s commitment to her sport, her ability to compete at a high level in multiple events, and her role as part of a family athletics tradition make her an inspiring figure for young athletes throughout Argentina. As she looks toward future competitions, including the South American Championships and qualification opportunities for major international events, Leila Garetto continues to chase her athletic dreams with determination and grace.
