    Gabriela Silva Mourão: Brazilian Sprint Champion

    Gabriela Silva Mourão is a distinguished Brazilian track and field athlete who has established herself as one of South America’s premier sprinters. Competing primarily in the 100 meters and 200 meters, she currently ranks 135th in the world in the women’s 100m and 322nd in the women’s 200m. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Mourão serves as a Third Sergeant (3º Sgt) in the Brazilian Army (Exército Brasileiro), representing the Esporte Clube Pinheiros in São Paulo.

    Track and Field Accomplishments

    Mourão’s competitive career began at the youth level in 2015, and she has since accumulated an impressive collection of international medals and achievements. Her honors include being a South American champion, South American U23 champion, South American Games bronze medallist, and Ibero-American Championships winner.

    Her personal bests demonstrate her elite speed: 11.14 seconds in the 100 meters (set on July 31, 2025) and 23.27 seconds in the 200 meters (achieved on June 4, 2023, in Cochabamba). She has also clocked 43.46 seconds as part of Brazil’s 4×100 meter relay team on August 25, 2023.

    At the youth and junior levels, Mourão competed at the 2015 Youth World Championships in Cali, reaching the semifinals in both the 100m and 200m. In 2016, she won silver in the 200 meters and bronze in the 100 meters at the U18 South American Championships in Concordia. At the 2016 Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, she earned a silver medal with Brazil’s 4×100 meter relay team.

    As she progressed in her career, Mourão won silver in the 100 meters at the 2021 U23 South American Championships in Guayaquil and helped Brazil’s relay team to victory with a time of 44.48 seconds. At the inaugural Pan American Junior Games in Cali in December 2021, she placed fifth in the 100 meters and won silver in the relay. In 2022, she competed at the South American Games in Asunción, where she earned bronze in the 4×100 meter relay.

    Mourão has been a two-time Brazilian national champion in the 4×100 meter relay (2021 and 2023). More recently, she finished second at the 2025 Halina Konopacka Classic in Poland, running 11.40 seconds in the 100 meters.

    Throughout 2024 and 2025, Mourão has continued to improve, approaching the sub-11 second barrier in the 100 meters, including a personal best of 11.12 seconds. She is coached by Victor Fernandes and represents Pinheiros-SP.

    Career and Military Service

    Mourão holds the rank of Third Sergeant in the Brazilian Army, where she competes as part of the military’s athletic program. This dual role as both a military servicemember and elite athlete reflects the strong tradition in Brazil of armed forces support for Olympic sports development. Her military affiliation provides her with training facilities and support while allowing her to represent Brazil on the international athletics stage.
