Ciandra Carrico: A Rising Multi-Event Star at Trinity University
San Antonio native emerges as one of the Tigers’ most versatile horizontal jumpers and hurdlers
Early Life and High School Career
Ciandra Carrico was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Christopher and Hazel Carrico. Growing up alongside her brother Christian, she attended Johnson High School, one of North East Independent School District’s premier public high schools, where she first developed the athletic talents that would carry her to the collegiate level.
At Johnson High School, Carrico distinguished herself not only on the track but in the classroom. She graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors, earned AP Scholar recognition, and was named an Academic All-State Athlete—a testament to her ability to balance the demands of high-level athletics with rigorous academics. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, demonstrating leadership and community involvement beyond her athletic pursuits.
Choosing Trinity University
When it came time to select a college, Carrico had clear priorities. In her own words, she chose Trinity because of the “good school academically, scholarship, track opportunity.” The San Antonio native didn’t have to travel far to find an institution that matched her dual commitment to athletic excellence and academic achievement.
Trinity University, a private liberal arts institution consistently ranked among the top regional universities in the West, offered Carrico the chance to compete in NCAA Division III athletics while pursuing a degree in Biology. The Tigers’ track and field program, one of the most successful in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, proved to be an ideal fit for the young multi-event athlete.
Freshman Season (2023-24): Immediate Conference Impact
Carrico wasted no time making her presence felt at the collegiate level. In her freshman campaign, she earned All-SCAC honors with a second-place finish in the long jump at the conference championships. This early success signaled that the Tigers had recruited an athlete capable of contributing at the conference’s highest level right from the start.
Her freshman year also saw her compete in the 100-meter hurdles, establishing a personal best of 15.89 seconds at the David Noble Relays. This versatility across horizontal jumps and hurdles would become a defining characteristic of her collegiate career.
Sophomore Season (2024-25): Breakthrough Performances
Carrico’s second year at Trinity saw significant growth across multiple events, culminating in conference recognition and program-record performances.
Indoor Season
The indoor season proved to be particularly successful for Carrico. At the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Indoor Last Chance Invitational in February 2025, she posted career-best marks in two events:
- 60-meter hurdles: 9.75 seconds (ranked 9th in Trinity program history)
- Triple jump: 10.85 meters (ranked 5th in Trinity program history)
Her performance in the triple jump earned her USTFCCCA All-Region honors (Indoor Triple Jump, 2024-25), placing her among the top performers in the West Region for NCAA Division III.
Outdoor Season
The outdoor season brought continued improvement. At the TLU D3 Challenge in March 2025, Carrico set a new personal best in the long jump with a leap of 5.18 meters. Then, at the Kingsville Cactus Cup in April, she achieved her career-best triple jump of 11.09 meters, a mark that now stands as the 9th-best in Trinity outdoor history.
At the 2025 SCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Carrico earned All-SCAC honors for the second consecutive year, finishing second in the triple jump. The meet also marked Trinity’s ninth SCAC women’s track and field title in ten years, with Carrico contributing valuable points to the team’s championship effort.
For her academic achievements during the 2024-25 season, Carrico was named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll, continuing her tradition of excellence in the classroom alongside her athletic accomplishments.
Junior Season (2025-26): Building on Success
Now entering her junior year, Carrico continues to compete in the jumps and hurdles for the Tigers. Early season results from the 2025-26 indoor campaign show she remains a key contributor to one of the SCAC’s most dominant programs.
At the FasTrak Collegiate Indoor Classic in February 2026, Carrico posted a triple jump mark of 10.42 meters, ranking among Trinity’s top performers in the event. She continues to develop as a multi-event athlete while working toward her Biology degree.
