Pell FAQ

1. How do I apply for the Pell Grant?
Just fill out the FAFSA. Most schools require this form anyway and the school will automatically check to see if you are eligible when they receive your FAFSA.

2. What happens if I get the Pell Grant and then I have to leave school?
You must check with the school’s withdrawal policy to see if you have attended enough school to keep the money (and not have to pay it back).

3. What if I did not attend enough school?
If your school’s policy says that you did not attend enough school, you must pay all or a part of the Pell Grant back to the school.

4. What will happen if I do not pay it back?
You will not be able to receive any financial aid at any school in the nation until that money is paid back.

5. How much can I get?
The maximum Pell Grant amount for the 2010-2011 school year is $5,550.

6. Is there a separate deadline or separate application for the Pell?
No, the FAFSA is your application for the Pell and the Pell deadline is the same as the deadline for the FAFSA: June 30, 2011 for the 2011-2012 school year.
